CardiacAssist, Inc. is a Pittsburgh, PA based
medical device company that develops, manufactures and
markets cardiac assist devices. The company, formed in 1996,
has developed a unique and proprietary
platform technology to provide a short-term circulatory
support system for cardiologists and cardiac surgeons.
Company Mission:
- Deliver novel solutions that reduce health
care costs and improve patient outcomes.
- Provide products to the cardiologist and cardiac surgeon
that address a broad range of patients less invasively and
improve response time for patients to receive effective
heart support in the cardiology cath lab.
While drug treatment can provide support for patients
experiencing acute heart failure, some do not respond to
maximum medical therapy with or without IABP (intra-aortic
balloon pump) treatment. There is growing evidence to
suggest that earlier deployment of mechanical circulatory
support is a critical determinant of success.
Cardiologists and cardiac surgeons are therefore searching for
novel treatment solutions to reduce the high incidence of
morbidity and mortality for profound heart failure patients
through:
- Earlier institution of circulatory support
- Ventricular offloading coupled with end-organ
reperfusion
- Minimally invasive approaches
